- 5-Lead ECG AI Wearable
In this project, students will design and build a wearable device that records a 5-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) and uses machine learning techniques to perform on-board diagnostics. Devices like this let patients be monitored 24/7 from the comfort of their homes. If any abnormalities are detected, a medical professional is alerted and can review the recordings remotely. Along the way, students will gain experience in biosignal acquisition, low-power embedded design, and running machine learning models on microcontrollers.
- Robotic Arm Control via EMG
In this project, students will develop an application that controls a robotic arm using an electromyography (EMG) armband. They will learn how non-invasive EMG works and how to sample and process muscle signals. By combining these signals with data from the armband’s onboard IMU (inertial measurement unit), they will map different gestures and movements to control the robotic arm. Similar technology is used in assistive devices and prosthetics that help people with weakened muscles in their everyday lives.
- EEG Classifier
In this project, students will build an EEG headset using dry electrodes and then use it to try to classify different emotional and mental states. The project is primarily educational rather than practical. Its goal is for students to understand how EEG works, how to build an EEG headset, and to take their first steps into machine learning and neural networks.
- Analog PPG, EMG and ECG Sensors
In this project, students will build and test a series of biosensors, starting with a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor and progressing to more advanced ones such as EMG and ECG sensors. The main goal is to give students hands-on experience with analog electronics: amplifiers, analog filters, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), and the techniques behind them.
- Coil for Biocellular Research
In this project, students will build a coil used in biocellular research to study how electromagnetic fields affect living cells. The focus is on giving students hands-on experience with RF amplifiers and coil design, and on learning what to watch out for when building high-frequency circuits and amplifiers.
- Cancer Cell Recognition
In this project, students will classify cancer cells using a variety of methods. Approaches range from analyzing microscope images to using cell characteristics such as metabolic activity, size, specific enzymes, or the effects the cells have on surrounding cells. The goal is to give students their first hands-on experience with neural networks and deep learning.
